free student leaders.
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) believes
that strong, positive student leaders are powerful role models.
With education and support, they can play a key role in enhancing
the chemical health of their peers and preventing chemical use
problems in extracurricular activities.
We believe that strong student leadership can help students
set goals, resist influences to use chemicals, and reward safe
and healthy behavior.
We believe that students can play a powerful and positive
role in helping to prevent chemical use problems among their classmates.
We believe that students can play a significant role
in helping classmates who are experiencing chemical use problems
to find professional and compassionate support and treatment.
We believe all student leaders can be encouraged and
assisted to be chemically free role models for their peers, regardless
of past choices and behavior.
We believe that positive student leadership is a key
component of any school or community prevention effort.
We believe that school administrators are in a key role
to influence policy development and provide support for student
leadership to emerge.
To identify student leaders of MSHSL Athletic and Fine
Arts Activities and to provide the opportunity for them to make
a commitment to be chemically free.
To provide education programs and training for the student
leaders about leadership skills, self-esteem and communication
skills and to provide opportunities for the student leaders to
speak to others about being chemically free.
To provide the student leaders with school and community
support for their commitment.
To provide recognition for the student leaders who have
made a commitment to be chemically free.
