 Welcome & Introductions: Roger Ziemann

School Board Levy Information:  Bruce Hentges
The strength of our Community and its work force is highly based on the quality of education and an Excellent School System.  The Real Estate Market is dependent strongly upon the quality of education provided within a community.  Economic Realities: District 742 is under-funded in State and Federal Testing Mandates.  Demographic Realities: District 742 compared to State %’s are:  ELL (10%) State (8%); Special Education (18%)  State (13%); Free/Red. Lunch (41%) State (32%).

If the 09-10 Levy fails, it will result in $4.3 Million in additional cuts.  Potential reductions will be to close 2 buildings; cut up to 55 Teachers; cut Jr. High Activities; cut Clerical and Paraprofessional positions; cut Administration; cut Special Education ; cut Secondary Supervision/Monitors.  The Impact of a failed levy would be tremendous for our city - Employment & Earnings, Housing Values, Crime Rates, Tax Revenues, Civic Responsibility. We need to reverse this Trend.

There will be 3 Questions on the November 4th Ballot:

  1. Approval of Revenue increase for Teachers, Activities, Transportation and Operations.

(This will restore 4.3 million in cuts 08-09 and will generate $555 per pupil.)

  1. Approval of revenue increase for funding equal to Minnesota average.

(Revenue $160 per pupile for 6 years).

  1. Approval of Revenue increase for additional Student Curriculum & Services.

(Generate $255 per pupil  for 6 years.)

There is a Tax Calculator on the District Website  www.isd742.org

If all questions pass this will generate $970 per student.  St. Cloud is of the  lower 1/3 taxed city in the State.  We are asking less of our city than other communities do. It’s time to invest in our Students. You + 2:  discuss with 2 others to get them out to vote.  There will be radio spots starting soon as well as mailings and brochures.

 Meeting adjourned 7:00pm
Next meeting:  Monday, October 27, 2008 at 6:00pm
