District uses part of $100K ING donation to remodel North pool A closed North pool will be turned into a gym and multipurpose facility this summer. The district has decided to use approximately $80,000 of a $100,000 donation from ING Direct and combine it with $120,000 in district capital improvement dollars to remodel the closed pool at North. The North pool was closed 4 years ago due to budget cuts and has sat empty since. Due to significant maintenance and operating costs, it is extremely unlikely that the pool will be opened in the future. It would take approximately $160,000 for the pool to be brought up to code and additional $30,000 a year to operate it. Although a working pool would be the first choice, district officials don't believe they could sustain the yearly operational and maintenance costs of a swimming pool. By remodeling the space, the area will be used for instruction instead of storage. The new space will house the weight room and have a gym floor over the reminder of the area that can be used by students and can be developed into a fitness center available for community use as well. Technology Students Design and Manufacture Mechanical Arm Honors Technology classes are finishing up their Mechanical Arm capstone projects. The students designed 17 different parts on CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) software then they manufactured and assembled the device in the Construction Lab. The project was part of a year long course that focuses on incorporating math, science, and the design process in the Industrial Technology class. The hands on activities enforce the practicality of the class and prepare the students for advanced engineering coursework at the high school and college level.
