I learned a lot of interesting
things about Abraham Lincoln. He was born February 12, 1809. He loved to re=
ad
and write. When he was younger some people made fun of him.=
Abraham Lincoln wore a coonsk=
in
hat when he was playing. When he was being a postman he wore a stovepipe ha=
t. His
dad gave him a bearskin blanket.
He worked hard doing farm cho=
res
and selling things. He sold axes, spoons and candy. He made costumers laugh=
.
The Lincolns struggled to earn
money on the farm in Kentucky wilderness. Nancy Lincoln was his mom. Tom
Lincoln was his dad. The Lincoln family moved to Knob Creek. Five years aft=
er
the Lincoln family moved to Knob Creek the Lincoln family moved to Indiana.=
Abraham Lincoln was the sixte=
enth
president. He worked for four years to keep the country together. In 1861, =
the
southern states broke away and became confederacy. The southern states deci=
ded if
slavery should be ended. Abraham Li=
ncoln had
a wife named Mary.
Abraham Lincoln made a famous speech in Getty=
217;s
burg Pennsylvania.
On April 14, they went to Ford’s Theater i=
n Washington
D.C. They watched a play called Our American Cousin. A little bit after the
play John Wilkes Booth snuck up and shot Abraham Lincoln by the left ear. J=
ohn
Wilkes Booth jumped up on the stage when he jumped by the the American flag=
and
cut it. When he landed he broke his leg, said sic semper tyrannis. ThatR=
17;s
Latin that means as always to a cruel, mean and unjust king, queen or
president. Abraham Lincoln died at 7:22 AM.
John Wilks Booth went to Garrett’s farm an=
d hid
in it. The soldiers set the barn on fire then shot him.
=
span>Abraham Lincoln is on the five
dollar bill. He is on the right side of Mount Rushmore. He is on the penny.=
We=
admire
him today as an American folk hero. However during the civil war he was the
most unpopular president the nation had ever known. The critics called him a
hick, a stupid bamboon head and tyrant. Tyrant means Abraham Lincoln is mea=
n,
cruel and unjust was unfit for his office.=
