Physical Description
A lynx is a type of cat. It is from the "small cat" category . Their ears are pointed and have ear tufts at the group tips. Their fur is called a coat and keeps them warm. It is usually brown with speckled black spots. Their long legs help them move through deep, soft snow. They have furry, broad, and long feet like snow shoes . It helps them from sinking into the snow by spreading out its weight. A lynx weighs from 79 to 227 pounds. It can live from 10 to 30 years. It has 1 to 6 babies at a time. The baby can weigh 1.4 to 15.7 ounces when born. They are 3 to 6.3 feet in length.
Habitat
A lynx lives in a territory that they've marked with urine and feces. The lynx also leaves scratch marks on trees. It may do this to keep it's claws sharp but may also be another form of territory marking. The lynx is mainly nocturnal, active at night, traveling up to12 miles at nighttime in search of food. When we build towns and cities the small cats have no where to live. We are taking away their habitat.
Eating Habits
The lynx hunts at night. They look for different animals to eat. The lynx will hunt for deer or something as small as a rabbit. The lynx eats deer, hoofed mammals, rodents, and birds.
