Physical Description
Zebras are known for their black and white stripes. Each Zebra has it's own stripe pattern. The stripes end at their bellies and toward the inside of the Zebra's leg. When a Zebra is born, they are black with white stripes. A Zebra's height is 4.2 to 4.9 ft tall. Zebras weigh 550 pounds to 900 pounds. Zebras can live until they are 25 years old. Zebras have black skin under their fur. Zebra stripes make it hard for predators to see them. When a Zebra is born they are black with white stripes.
Habitat
Zebras are found in Eastern and Southern Africa. They live on the grasslands of these areas. These areas are also known as savannas. A savanna is a piece of land that is covered in grass and trees. All day they roam the grasslands while they look for food. Zebras live in herds. African savannas have two seasons: dry and wet. In the dry seasons it doesn't rain. In the wet season it rains and the grass turns green and some of the trees bloom with flowers.
Eating Habitat
Zebras eat a variety of grass, other plants, and roots. They also drink water. A Zebra's diet is low in protein. Zebras eat large amounts of food to get nutrients.
Defense
A Zebrass defense against predators is their ability to use the powerful kick that they have which can seriously injure predators; while females and babies tend to run from danger.
