Description

Prairie dogs are short and chubby.  They have long front teeth.  Prairie dogs can be tan, white, and black. They wag their tails when they are happy.

Habitat

Most prairie dogs live in the grasslands in North America. They live in Central United States.  They eat grass, plants, and insects.  Prairie dogs are not found in central Minnesota.

Interesting Facts

Prairie dogs bark to warn each other of hawks, badgers, and ferrets.  In 1804 Lewis and Clark brought back the first prairie dog to President Jefferson.  The prairie dogs best defense is to hide in a burrow.
