Day 5 of your adventure begins here!

You are a little tired this morning as your dreams were full of magical creatures and some weren't so nice!  You are excited about another day though, knowing that you only have a few more at this enchanted school!

  • Read Chapter 11-Quidditch from the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
  • Prepare your journal by labeling today's page with "Wednesday" and then include today's date.
  • As you compose your journal  for Wednesday be sure to use each of the following words, using the meaning you found in your book for the word, at least one time.  Make them orange in your document. (You may "copy and paste" this list by highlighting the words on this web page, right-clicking, choosing "copy," and then pasting the list into your journal so you have them all on hand to use as you write) :  chappie, diversion, jinxing, lurch, wheedled

Just as you did yesterday and the day before, you again find your schedule lying neatly on your desk.  You quickly scan the itinerary.

Wednesday  looks like this:

8:00 Breakfast

9:00  Library Tour

12:30 Lunch

1:00  Herbology

3:00 Play Quidditch

5:30 Dinner

6:30 Games

10:00 Lights Out

Again, Don't forget to make an entry in your journal for each activity of the day!  Include your whole experience!  Don't forget to mention what you do, see, hear, taste, touch. smell, and especially how you feel about it!  This is YOUR experience, so you are in charge of what happens to you at every turn!

8:00 Breakfast

You are so hungry!

  • What is the menu today?  Make sure you write about what students at Hogwarts eat for breakfast in your journal.  Include how things are served, if or if not there are choices, and what you eat.  Include any breakfast conversation you might have with others at your table.

9:00  Library Tour

Today, you are going to go exploring in the Library.  Does that sound boring?  It's not!  There are some very wonderful hidden surprises waiting for you there.

  • Click on the button below to go to the library.  When you get there, look around.  What mood does this room have?  Now, click on the fire.  You'll have two choices.  Choose the Cast - a - Spell Kit.  Experiment with it and take pictures of what you are able to do to include in your scrapbook.

  • Write about casting spells, the library, and what else you'd like to do there when you get back.

12:30 Lunch

1:00  Herbology - Professor Sprout

On your way to the greenhouse, you can only imagine what is in store for you in school today!  When you get there you  look all around and are amazed by the mood in this place.

Remember, to get a 360 degree view, drag your mouse button to the edges of the view and you'll be turning to see the whole room.

  • How does this place make you feel?  What smells, sights, and sounds might you find in this greenhouse?  Journal about that before you start your class.

Oh boy!  You are going to get to try to grow your very own Mandrake.  Get your earmuffs on and see how you do in this class!   Professor Sprout says that first-year students usually don't have much luck at this....most students can only keep their Mandrake alive a day or two at best.  You are excited to try your hand at it....surely you'll do better than that!

  • Click on the button below to grow your own Mandrake!  You may experiment  3 times to figure out the exact process that works best.

  • Take a "snapshot" of your final try and include it in your journal.  Tell about your different strategies.  See if you can include the following information in your writing.

    • Were you successful in keeping your Mandrake healthy?
    • What were the variables in the experiment?
    • What was your experimental method (the order in which you did things)?
    • What did you find to be the most critical variable?
    • What is your conclusion about how to successfully grow a  Mandrake?
  • If you were successful in growing a Mandrake, you'll have to go back from time to time to check on it!  Include those visits in your journal too!

3:00 Quidditch Practice

  • Review the rules of Quidditch here by clicking on this link, then entering the website and choosing "Quidditch."

  • Click on the link below to go to the main game menu.  Choose either Keeper or Seeker practice.  You may choose both if you wish.   Take "snapshots" of any scores you'd like to post in your journal. Your back button may not take you back to the WebQuest, so you may have to reload the page when you are done.

  • Quidditch seems to be a game made up of other games.  Can you think of any games you've played or watched that remind you of something in Quidditch?  Journal about which games and what parts of Quidditch they remind you of and why.

5:30 Dinner

6:30 Games

Back to the Library!  You didn't know it, but your friends have some games they like to play there around the fire on cold, chilly, rainy evenings.  You are invited to join them tonight!

  • Click on the link above to go back to the main menu and click on the Marauders’ Map.  Find your way to the library and click on the floor and bookcase to find more surprises and secrets.
      • Play “What’s Missing?”
      • Play “The Slide Puzzle.”
      • Play “The Maze.”

    • Write about who you played with, what happened, and how things went in general in your journal when you get back to your room.  As always, include any images you'd like to from your time in the Library playing games.
    • Rate your day using this handy rating rubric!  Run off one copy of the following document: Using a pencil or black pen, rate your day.  Don’t forget to thoughtfully write your reflections! Then, save your document in the required location, or print it off, whichever your teacher has indicated, and hand in your rubric.  Don’t forget your name!
