Day 6 of your adventure begins here!

You can't believe this is your last day of regular classes.  Tomorrow you'll be doing something different, although you don't yet know what that will be.

Today however, you jump out of bed to find your schedule again lying neatly on your desk.  Alongside it is a small cloth sack gathered up at the opening with a little string.  On it are the words "Flue Powder - DO NOT TOUCH!."

  • Read Chapter 16-Through the Trapdoor , from the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
  • Prepare your journal by labeling today's page with "Thursday" and then include today's date.
  • As you compose your journal  for Thursday be sure to use each of the following words, using the meaning you found in your book for the word, at least one time.  Make them orange in your document. (You may "copy and paste" this list by highlighting the words on this web page, right-clicking, choosing "copy," and then pasting the list into your journal so you have them all on hand to use as you write) :  batty, bungled, creepers, cringed, flailing, flared, fret, logic, nettle, sweltering, tentacles, tumbled

Just as you did yesterday and every day this week, you quickly scan the day's itinerary.  You are VERY careful NOT to touch the little bag of Flue Powder......(but you are VERY curious).

Thursday  looks like this:

8:00 Breakfast

9:00  Tour the Chamber of Secrets

12:30 Lunch

1:00  Hogwart's - Who's Who?

3:00 Up the Flue

5:30 Dinner

6:30 Trading Card Game - Chess

10:00 Lights Out

Again, Don't forget to make an entry in your journal for each activity of the day!  Include your whole experience!  Don't forget to mention what you do, see, hear, taste, touch. smell, and especially how you feel about it!  This is YOUR experience, so you are in charge of what happens to you at every turn!

8:00 Breakfast

9:00  Tour the Chamber of Secrets

Wow, you follow Harry, Ron, and Hermione to the hallway where Fluffy guards the trapdoor.  You are suddenly aware that you are SCARED for the first time since you've been at Hogwarts.  Hermione picks up the flute and hands it to you.  It's your job to play something and put Fluffy to sleep.  You play and watch the huge three-headed dog's eyes close.  As they do, Ron and Hermione gesture for you to hand over the flute.  You do, and Ron keeps playing.  They ask you to drop through into the darkness first.  You know you have to.  It's too late to back out now.

  • Describe how you feel as you hang onto the edge of the opening, knowing you must let go.  What are you thinking about?  What awaits you?  What worries you?  What excites you?
    • Write about each step on your way.  Remember, the first time the children came down here, they needed to depend on each other's gifts to be successful.  What will you be very good at?  What will you need help with?
      • Devil's Snare
      • Catching a Key
      • Playing Chess
      • Solving the Riddle

  • Write about how you feel once you are actually in the Chamber.  Describe it and what you think the different areas mean.  Don't be afraid to explore and look around first (remember to drag your mouse to the side to get the full 360 degree view).

You are a little sad when you have to leave, and also you feel relieved.  You exit through a secret tunnel back to the lovely campus and breath the crisp air.

  • Jot down your feelings  about how it is  to be back in a safe, familiar place and why you feel that way.
    • THIS IS OPTIONAL.  You may decide to send yourself a postcard so you'll get it when you get home.    If you'd like to send yourself a postcard, use your home email address so you can share it with your parents.

12:30 Lunch - You realize that you won't ever have a chance to eat in this dining hall again after tomorrow.  You think it would be cool to remember what lunch was like at Hogwarts.

  • Journal menu for Lunch.  Are the surroundings different at lunch than they are at breakfast?  What is the ceiling doing?  How are things served?  What is the menu?

1:00  Hogwart's - Who's Who?

Class today is a little bit history, a little bit current events.  You are going to research  the characters in this story!

  • Take notes by saving important information and taking pictures to include in your journal. (This information may come in very handy tomorrow.) Tech Tip: You will need to close each pop-up window before you go on to the next character.

3:00 Up the Flue - Library Fireplace - Bring Flue Powder.

This class will test your skills at observation.  You will go to the Burrow and the Dursely's homes using Flue Powder.  Once you get to each home, you'll be asked to transfigure yourself into a common household object so you may observe without being seen.  You should explore all areas of each home thoroughly.  Record what you see, feel, and do in each place.

  • Write in your journal about going "by flue."  What does it feel like, look like, sound like, etc?
  • Take notes about each home you visit on this T-Chart.   Don't forget to include many, many "picture words" and details about how things look, feel, smell, sound, etc.

After clicking on this link, a Word Document will open.  You may type right into it, and Save it as a document in YOUR file, or you may print it off and write directly on it.

You have to make sure you only use 1/2 of your Flue Powder for each trip!  Ron will go with you to The Burrow, and Harry will go with to the Dursley's.  Don't worry, no one will even know you are there!

When you are at The Burrow, make sure you tap on the pipes in the kitchen, and explore the middle level room as well as the room on the highest level.  Take any "snapshots" at either place which you might like to include in your journal.

  • Compare and contrast the two places in your journal.  Include:
    • One paragraph -  What things were similar?
    • One paragraph - What things were different?
    • One paragraph -  What were your personal feelings about which place you'd rather live in and why?

5:30 Dinner

6:30 Trading Card Game  and Chess

Tonight you and your friends will be staying in.  You'll be playing games right in front of the Gryffindor fireplace in the Common Room.    You are going to watch Ron play chess (he's very good),  then play a game of your own against a real opponent, and finally you are going to learn a game where you can use all the trading cards you've collected eating all those chocolate frogs!

  • Click on the "Watch Chess" link to watch a real match of the masters!  click on the > button each time you'd like to see the next move.  Can you figure out the rules just by watching?  Pay attention to the play card to the right of the board.  Can you figure out what all those letters and numbers mean?  If you think you know, write it down in your journal after the game is over.

  • Which did you prefer, Watching Chess, playing Chess, or playing the Trading Card game?  Journal about your feelings and why you think you feel that way.

10:00 Lights Out

You can't believe it when Harry comes into your room and hands you his invisibility cloak.  This is your last night at Hogwarts and suddenly you know it is going to be an adventure!    Apparently you are going to be taking a little  stroll around the grounds after lights out!  This is spooky but VERY exciting!  You follow him out the door and find Hermione and Ron waiting for you too!

  • Write about your adventure.  Give your story a beginning, middle, and end.  Make sure it has a title.  When you are done, feel free to add pictures and graphics!

?????   You aren't sure what time it is, but you are finally in your warm, safe, cozy  BED!

  • Rate your day using this handy rating rubric!  Run off one copy of the following document: Using a pencil or black pen, rate your day.  Don’t forget to thoughtfully write your reflections! Then, save your document in the required location, or print it off, whichever your teacher has indicated, and hand in your rubric.  Don’t forget your name!
