About Discovery Community School

Discovery Community School is an elementary school serving kindergarten through grade six. We have approximately 600 students from Waite Park, St. Cloud and the surrounding area.

Our school offers an all day every day kindergarten program, at no charge to families. We have three to five sections of each grade level one through six. Our class sizes range from an average of 17 in kindergarten to 24 in grade four. Our staff of experienced teachers is dedicated to providing high quality instruction to students.

Each school day, students participate in Applied Arts programming. Physical Education, Vocal Music and Visual Arts classes are offered on a rotating basis. Classrooms visit the Media Center weekly for lessons provided by the Media Specialist related to literature, research, use of media resources and technology. In addition, students in grade five and six may choose to participate in our orchestra program, while band is available to students in grade six.

Our school community is proud of the many resources available to students. We have two Windows-based technology labs equipped with internet access. Our Media Center contains over 50,000 books and print resources. Students have access to numerous computer programs and educational CD ROMs.

Many supports and resources are provided to students. Our Special Education teachers provide services according to students' specific needs. Title I and intervention programming are resources for students struggling with Reading and Mathematics skills. A School Social Worker, Mental Health Facilitator, School Psychologist and Counselor work with students who are in need of additional support.

Our school collaborates with many community organizations to provide options beyond the traditional school day. A Kidstop program is on-site for after school child care. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota provides site-based mentoring for students who may benefit from an additional friendly adult in his/her life.  Students in grades two through six have the opportunity to participate in targeted services programming which provides arts and academic activities Tuesday and Thursday of each week. Academic achievement activities are available after school hours, which are planned and organized by parent and teacher volunteers.

If you have any questions about our school, please feel free to call the school office or send an e-mail message.
