Flu Season
Watch for the H1N1 information and con-sent forms coming soon. These forms will be sent home with your child. They need to be signed and returned to school if you want your child to receive the H1N1 vaccine at school. Stearns County Public Health will be running a clinic in early November at Discovery School.
Remember to continue to wash hands regularly to stop the spread of germs. Children who have a temperature of 100 or greater should stay home from school. Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. Students who have been ill should not return to school until they have been free of a fever for 24 hours without the help of fever reducing medicine.
Discovery Walk-a-Thon
Our first annual Discovery Walk-a-Thon was held indoors on Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. The students enjoyed their walking time despite the cold weather which pre-vented the Walk-a-Thon from being outdoors. The total amount brought in for the event was $5001.33! Thanks to all of the parents and family members for supporting this event. The funds will be used to extend our learning out-side of the classroom on field trips. Thank you to Kim Sterling, Jane Blommel, and Linda Fuchs for their work with the Walk-a-thon. We appre-ciate the support of our community partners: BLEND donated water and water bottles for all stu-dents; Eric Brutger, owner of Culver's in Waite Park donated custard tokens and free kid's meal certificates to be used as prizes; Horace Mann donated a bike; and many other great prizes were donated from other commu-nity partners. The first Annual Discovery Walk-a-Thon was a success!
Learning Links
Are you interested in safe, fun and educational web site options for your children? Click on "Learning Links" at the left of your screen. On that page you will find sites that Discovery teachers recommend and are using at your child's school. In addition, at the top of the page, you will find a link to numerous sites researched and recommended by District 742 Media Specialists.
Your Food Account Balance
Families and staff can check their food account balance and date of last transaction. You will be prompted to enter a PIN number. Parents: this is the same PIN your child uses to purchase breakfast, lunch, milk and a la carte items. Forgot that PIN? Contact the school's office.
