Program Mission: The ALC PLADO Lab is located at the Area Learning Center Wilson building. PLADO is a technology enhanced learning center designed to provide an alternative educational program that is supportive and goal oriented. Students are given the opportunity to make academic progress consistent with individual achievement that is safe and caring. Success for students in academic, social and life goals will involve family, school, and community support. Belief statements: * Individual student's needs vary greatly * Student's have differing learning styles * Some students need flexible scheduling * Students need to learn to make choices for themselves * Learning is life-long * Instruction needs to be individualized * Time is a resource we provide * Staff/student relations are pivotal to the student's success * Personal/family issues may be barriers to learning Program Schedule Students are scheduled to attend the program five days a week in two hour blocks of time: 8:00-10:00 10:00-12:00 12:30-2:30 Description of academic program: The PLADO lab program uses Plato software and a wide variety of other resources and small group classes to offer curriculum in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, work experience, creative arts, and physical education. A work experience coordinator will assist students with on-the-job training experiences. A service learning component is also available. |
