MAAP STARSThe Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs’ youth organization, otherwise known as MAAP STARS, is an organization whose leadership, personal development, and career encouragement is designed for those young people participating in Alternative Education. It recognizes their positive economic, educational, and social developments through several different activities. The primary goal of MAAP STARS is to encourage young adults in Alternative Education to be high achievers. This is done at a state level and a local level. At the local level students plan activities, fundraisers, and community service projects. An educational component is also taught in the Employment Skills Seminar class. At the state level, the MAAP board (Alternative Education teachers) and the MAAP STARS board (Alternative Education students) plan three events throughout the year. The first event is a two day Fall Leadership Workshop. The second event is Legislator Day at the State Capitol. The third event is the Spring Competition Conference. For more information on these events you can go to www.maapmn.org or call (320) 251-4963 to talk to one of the advisors. MAAP STARS stands for: Success, Teamwork, Achievement, Recognition, and Self-Esteem.
