Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments-Series II (MCA-IIs)

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments—Series II (MCA-IIs) are the state tests that help districts measure student progress toward Minnesota's academic standards and meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind.  They are used to determine whether schools and districts have made adequate yearly progress toward all students being proficient in 2014.

Reading tests are given in grades three through eight and grade 10. Mathematics tests are given in grades three through eight and grade 11. Science tests will be given in grades five and eight and once in high school, depending on when students complete their life sciences curriculum.

Below are links to charts that compare District 742 MCA-II scores to those of other school districts, including Rocori, Sartell-St. Stephen and Sauk Rapids-Rice. These charts are prepared by the Minnesota Department of Education, which is responsible for interpretation of the test data.

College Entrance Examinations
  • American College Test (ACT) - The ACT is the common college admissions examination.  It is a post-secondary normed assessment that addresses the areas of mathematics, English, reading and science reasoning.
  • Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) - The PSAT, offered once a year in October, determines which students qualify for National Merit Scholarship semifinalist competition.  It is also a predictor of SAT results.
  • Advance Placement Testing (AP) - AP is a program of the College Board, the same organization that administers the SAT test. It allows high school students to take college-level courses and exams for college credit. The classes are taught at Tech and Apollo by specially trained high school teachers. Each AP course has a corresponding exam that is administered each May.
