GRADE 3 PHYSICAL EDUCATION REQUIRED CURRICULUM

The purpose of physical education shall be to maximize each student's potential through the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will transfer to a healthy lifestyle.

 

LEARNER OUTCOMES. The student will:

 

1. Demonstrate perceptual motor efficiently through lifelong recreation/leisure activities.

_____ A. Demonstrate recreational activities (e.g., frisbee, jump rope, 4 square, in-line skating and juggling).

 

2. Create and demonstrate a variety of rhythmic patterns and dances.

_____ A. Demonstrate basic locomotor and non-locomotor movements in musical or rhythmic context (circle dance, line dance, a student created dance and movement to tempo).

_____B. Respond to selected assignments and or problems (Body, Action, Space, Time Energy: BASTE).

_____C. Demonstrate an understanding of dance vocabulary (actions, levels, time/tempo).

_____D. Create sequences of movement to communicate an original story or an experience.

 

3. Demonstrate Balance and Body Control.

_____ A. Experience a forward, backward, shoulder or straddle roll.

_____ B. Demonstrate body control moving through space at a variety of speeds.

_____ C. Transfer safety, sportsmanship and equipment care rules from the gym to the playground.

 

4. Develop movement skills incorporating eye-hand and eye-foot coordination.

_____ A. Demonstrate technically correct overhand throw (criteria: minimum of 5 yards, dominant hand, stepping with opposite foot)

_____ B. Demonstrate proper catching technique (criteria: catching the ball and absorbing force without trapping)

_____ C. Demonstrate dribbling a ball with feet with proper form.

_____ D. Demonstrate passing skills with feet with proper form.

_____ E. Experience goalie skills with proper form.

_____ F. Demonstrate dribble, bounce and chest passing with proper form.

_____ G. Demonstrate striking skills.

 

5. Increase muscular strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, body awareness and agility through physical activities.

_____ A. Measure personal agility, flexibility, cardiorespiratory, upper body strength and abdominal strength.

_____B. Use criteria to identify personal fitness area(s) for improvement.

_____C. Create a daily fitness plan to identify and set personal goals for improvement.

_____D. Participate in the self-designed, daily fitness plan and log the experience for 2-5 weeks.

_____E. Reflect on personal progress resulting from the decision-making process.

 

6. Develop a positive self concept, respect for self and others and positive social and interpersonal skills.

_____ A. Demonstrate appropriate competitive participation.

_____ B. Demonstrate appropriate cooperative participation.

_____ C. Manage conflict appropriately.
