GRADE 2 PHYSICAL EDUCATION REQUIRED CURRICULUM

Grade 2

The purpose of physical education shall be to maximize each student's potential through the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will transfer to a healthy lifestyle.

 

LEARNER OUTCOMES. The student will:

 

1. Develop perceptual motor efficiency through lifelong recreation/leisure activities.

_____ A. Experience lifelong recreation/leisure activity (e.g., frisbee, juggling, jump rope, scoops, etc.).

 

2. Create and demonstrate rhythmic patterns and dance.

_____ A. View/experience dance from other cultures.
_____ B. Recognize basic dance concepts and vocabulary.
_____ C. Create a repetitive, 4 -count dance.

 

3. Move safely and efficiently through space, being aware of self, others and the environment.

_____ A. Demonstrate balance by momentary stillness in symmetrical and nonsymmetrical shapes on a variety of body parts.

_____ B. Demonstrate falling in a safe manner.

_____ C. Experience weight bearing on the hands (e.g., cartwheel, wall walk, puppy dog run, etc.).

_____ D. Transfer safety, sportsmanship and equipment care from the gym to the playground.

 

4. Develop movement skills incorporating eye-hand and eye-foot coordination through lead-up games.

_____ A. Demonstrate basic base running with proper form.
_____ B. Demonstrate kicking a rolled ball with proper form.
_____ C. Demonstrate passing skills with hands with proper form.
_____ D. Demonstrate trap with foot: trap a propelled ball with proper form.
_____ E. Experience dribble, bounce and chest passing with proper form.

 

5. Increase muscular strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, body awareness and agility through physical activity.

_____ B. Use the decision making process to develop and participate in a daily fitness plan (Fitness Fever or a similar daily log system).
