KINDERGARTEN PHYSICAL EDUCATION REQUIRED CURRICULUM

Grade K

The purpose of physical education shall be to maximize each student's potential through the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will transfer to a healthy lifestyle.

 

LEARNER OUTCOMES. The student will:

 

1. Develop perceptual motor efficiency.

A. Fundamental locomotor movements

1. Demonstrate the proper technique of:

B. Fundamental nonlocomotor movements

1. Demonstrate nonlocomotor movements:

_____bending in various ways at all joints
_____pulling
_____swinging with various body part individually
_____pushing
_____rocking in various body shapes and ways

_____twisting with different body parts and in various ways


2. Explore movements through rhythm and dance.

_____ A. Develop movement skills

_____ 1. Demonstrate body awareness: the names of various body parts, the location of each part and the ability to control each part independently or in conjunction with others.

_____2. Demonstrate body balance in various positions on the floor.

 

3. Move safely and efficiently through space, being aware of self, others in indoor and outdoor environments

_____ A. Demonstrate skills of chasing, fleeing and dodging to avoid colliding.

_____ B. Use equipment and space safely and properly.

_____ C. Move safely and efficiently through multi-task obstacle course.

 

4. Develop manipulative movement skills: eye-hand and eye-foot coordination.

_____ A. Demonstrate rolling the ball at a target with two hands.

_____ B. Experience throwing in place various types and sizes of balls.

 

5. Increase muscular strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, body awareness and agility through fitness and lifelong recreation/leisure activities.

_____ A. Experience test items from a fitness testing program: distance run, stretch, abdominal & arm strength, agility.

_____ B. Discuss age appropriate activities to improve personal fitness.

 

6. Develop a positive self concept, respect for self and others and positive social and interpersonal skills.
