MembersThe Board of Education is composed of seven members elected to serve overlapping terms. The Superintendent of Schools serves as the ex-officio member of the Board without the right to vote. The election of Board Members occurs on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November during odd-numbered years, and all members are elected at large. New Board Members take office effective Jan. 1, following the election. MeetingsThe Board of Education meets regularly twice monthly on the second Wednesday (work session) and fourth Thursday (business meeting) unless otherwise noted. A brief Board of Education meeting (consent agenda) will be held prior to the start of the monthly work sessions, if needed. The monthly work sessions are held at 6:30 p.m. at the District 742 Administration Office, 1000 North 44th Avenue, St. Cloud. Monthly business meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Cloud Hall Council Chambers, 400 2nd Street South, St. Cloud. Monthly business meetings are broadcast live on Charter Cable Channel 6 and rebroadcast on subsequent Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7:00 p.m. View the 2010 Board Meeting Schedule for a complete listing of Board of Education dates, times, and locations. Meetings of the Board of Education are open to the public. In instances when a special meeting must be called to consider official School District business, which needs immediate attention and cannot be postponed to the next regularly scheduled meeting, the public will be informed. ActionsThe Board must have a quorum of four members present before it can take official action. Most Board actions may be approved by a simple majority of the membership present. The Board has final authority, subject only to the limitations of state and federal laws and regulations and Board of Education policies. Written CommunicationCommunity members who are unable to attend Board of Education meetings are encouraged to prepare written documents that are to be submitted to the Board of Education by the Superintendent of Schools and/or Board Chairperson.
