| Teaching and learning. It is not just
a slogan. It's what the women and men of St. Cloud Area School District
742 do. Our caring and committed staff members deliver learning
for a lifetime to a diverse population of students in nine
St. Cloud area communities. District 742 is the largest school
district in Central Minnesota, proudly sharing the gift of education
with nearly 9,500 students each school day.
Located 70 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul, we bring the
world's ideas into every school room. Our licensed staff, 67 percent
of whom have advanced degrees, teach challenging classes that use
the latest technology as well as tried-and-true methods.
District 742 has eight elementary schools, two junior highs (7-8),
two high schools (9-12), two alternative learning schools, an early
childhood center and a community education center. The high schools
offer an array of AP courses and other opportunities to prepare
students for post-secondary education. Students are encouraged to
participate in their choice of athletic, scholarly and fine arts
activities.
Meeting the needs of the entire community is fundamental. In partnership
with parents, post-secondary educational institutions and businesses,
the district is shaping curriculum, instruction and assessment to
ensure all students are successful. Our Early Childhood Services
and Community Education Center programs provide opportunities for
district residents from newborn through adult, including citizenship
and language classes that educate our newest residents. Our Special
Education program delivers a full range of services to disabled
students, from birth to age 21.
Residents show support for District 742 in many ways. They volunteer
in our classrooms and media centers and participate in PTAs and
Site Councils. The Local Educational Activities Foundation, a non-profit
fundraising group, provides supplementary financial support for
student activities.
Blending Old Society values and New Economy skills isn't easy.
But we've done it. Our focus on teaching and learning insures that
the magical dialogue between students and teachers informs every
decision we make.
Teaching and learning. It's why we became educators. Learning for
a lifetime. It's our promise to you.
