What is the goal of our meal program?

Our goal is to serve nutritious meals in a friendly, clean and caring environment.

Do all schools serve breakfast?

Breakfast is served in all the elementary schools and at both junior high schools.

How can students receive free or reduced meals?

Students who qualify, by completing a new free/reduced meal application each school year, may receive free or reduced priced meals. Applications are available in each school office during the school year. A reduced breakfast is free and a lunch is $0.40.

What guidelines are used to plan menus?

In District 742, our priority is implementing the principles outlined in the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which translates into lower fats, sugar, salt, and cholesterol as well as higher fiber.

What are the school breakfast meal pattern requirements?

      Breakfast Meal Pattern:

  • Fruit or vegetable (one-half cup)
  • Two servings bread/bread alternate, or two ounces meat/meat alternate or one serving bread and one ounce meat
  • Fluid milk (one-half pint)

Can schools serve any foods they want?

Menus must meet federal school lunch requirements. Meals must provide one-third of the Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA) for key nutrients and calories.

Do students have to take a complete lunch?

Offer versus Serve is a federal standard that allows students to select 3, 4, or 5 components for their lunch each day at regular lunch price. Studies have demonstrated that the better nourished student will generally have higher attendance, be more attentive, and have more energy to cope with school day opportunities.
