Integration Planning Continues
Minnesota Minority Education Partnership, Inc. (MMEP) facilitated a process to gather community input that would prioritize educational programming themes for our district's integration planning. This process involved: gathering key insights from previous community meetings on educational equity and excellence and facilitating an open and democratic meeting with several stakeholders in the St. Cloud community. Open House for ALC Service Learning Project
Area Learning Center (ALC) West PACE Program will host an Open House Celebration for the Quarry Park Poetry Trails Service Learning Project on May 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at McKinley Education Center. Part of the project involved two SCSU Professors working with ALC West PACE students on a weekly basis, focusing on different styles of poetry written about scenic views the youth took from Quarry Park. The idea of a poetry trail evolved when students wanted to give something back to the community and the editing and selection process of the final ten writings began and were made into plaques. The plaques, along with greeting cards created by the students will be on display for the public during the open house. View the press release and photo.
Fun in the Sun Day at North Junior High
May 2 was Fun in the Sun Day at North. The day is dedicated by the Nutritional Services Staff at North to the students. The cafeteria is transformed into a tropical paradise. A special menu, decorations, limbo, hula dancing, invited guests and prizes are all part of the fun. The cooks at North used their own time to conduct fundraising to pay for the event. Superintendent Watkins even stopped by to enjoy the festivities. View a photo slide show.

Graduation Ceremonies Set at High Schools
Tech and Apollo High Schools have decided to move the location for graduation ceremonies to Halenbeck Hall, on the campus of SCSU. Seating capacity at Halenbeck is over 5,000 for a graduation ceremony, well over expected attendance. The reasons for the change included problems with the sound system at the National Hockey Center which prevented many people, including the graduates, from hearing speakers. Tech will graduate on May 29 and Apollo on May 30. Both ceremonies begin at 7:30 p.m.

Early Childhood Screening
The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how children are doing between the ages of three to four years. It identifies, at an early stage, possible learning or health concerns so that children can get needed help before starting school. Screening in early childhood supports children's readiness for kindergarten and promotes positive child health and developmental outcomes. Early Childhood Screening is not a kindergarten entrance test. Visit our Early Childhood Screening web page for more information.
