ACCESS Grant
Who: The St. Cloud Access and Opportunity Center is a partnership consisting of St. Cloud State University (SCSU), St. Cloud Technical College (SCTC), and the St. Cloud School District (District 742).
What: The purpose of the grant is to improve academic achievement and high school graduation rates, increasing rigorous college preparatory course-taking behavior, and increasing post-secondary participation among underrepresented students in grades 8-12 in District 742

Advanced Placement - Improving Access for ALL
Who: MDE awarded the grant to District 742.
What: The “Improving Access for ALL” Program will target 7th-9th graders at North Jr. High and Apollo High School. The purpose of the program is to raise academic achievement through increased student participation in PreAP and AP programs. A full-time coordinator will be hired to facilitate the program.
When: A total of $161,600 through June 30, 2009

Elementary Counseling
Who: Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools awarded the grant to District 742.
What: Provide a counselor to each elementary school to serve students in grades K-6 to foster the personal growth, educational development, and emotional well-being of students.
When: A three-year grant beginning in 2007 and totaling $1 million.

Emergency Response/Crisis Management Grant
Who: Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools awarded the grant to District 742.
What: The St. Cloud Area School District will partner with the St. Cloud Police Department, City of St. Cloud, Stearns County Emergency Management, Stearns County Public Health, and the Central Minnesota Mental Health Center to implement a comprehensive approach to revise and update the emergency response plans including a recovery plan and communication plan.
When: A total of $246,622 from September 2006 through February 2009.

Magnet Grant
Who: MDE awarded grant funds to District 742.
What: Funds to develop the Spanish Immersion Program, Academia de Espanol Clara Vista
When: A total of $84,935 through June 30, 2009.

Minnesota Reading Corps (MRC)
Who: Each elementary school will serve as a host site for the Minnesota Reading Corps. Each site will recruit volunteers to work in the schools.
What: MRC is a program that provides trained literacy tutors for children age three through grade three. See also http://www.minnesotareadingcorps.org/

Partnership in Mathematics Program
Who: MDE awarded grant funds to District 742.
What: Through a partnership with St. Cloud State University, funds will support staff development activities and coordination to increase math achievement (specifically focused on algebra concepts) of students as measured by common assessments.
When: A $618,000 grant, spread over three years, starting Jan. 2007 through Dec. 2009.

Fit for Life Youth (FLY) Program AKA Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP)
Who: Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools awarded the grant to District 742.
What: Through a partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Central MN and Project BLEND, the project will increase the health and physical fitness of students and to equip them with the knowledge and skills to be healthy and physically active for a lifetime.
When: A $840,000 grant, spread over three years, starting July 2008 through June 2011.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF)
Who: Each year the RIF program provides 75% of the funds and District 742 acquires 25% in local matching funds to give three, free books to each District 742 student, birth through grade nine.
What: The goal is to improve literacy.
When: Three book giveaways each school year.

School Based Mentoring Program
Who: Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools awarded the grant to Big Brothers Big Sisters (BB/BS) of Central Minnesota and District 742.
What: This project will serve children attending grades four through eight within the St. Cloud Area School District who have been identified by staff and faculty as having the greatest need. This service will be accomplished by matching the identified youth with carefully screened and trained volunteer mentors who will guide them in a nurturing and supportive relationship.
When: $138,635 per year for three years.

Service Learning: Making A Difference
Who: MDE awarded the grant to District 742.
What: To institutionalize Service Learning through professional development for administrators, teacher mentoring, and the creation of an advisory committee.
When: $13,500 per year for three years.

Teacher Quality Enhancement Partnership (TQE)
Who: St. Cloud State University (SCSU), District 742, Diversified Media Resources and Media-X Systems. Other area schools are expected to join as TQE expands in years two through five.
What: A five-year, $5 million project to enhance student teacher training and provide mentors for new teachers.
When: Ends in 2008.

Transitions Always Made Easy (TAME)
Who: MN Office of Higher Education Awarded the grant to Tech High School and South Jr. High
What: The program goals and objectives are designed to address disparities in the areas of academic achievement and high school graduation rates, course-taking patterns, and college attendance.
When: A total of $87,367 through June 30, 2009.
