FTP Managers

Anyone can put a file into an FTP folder. But only an FTP manager, using his/her network username and password, can retrieve a file from an FTP folder. View a visual of the login process.

At schools that person is the media specialist. Other FTP managers include:

ALC Wilson - Mert Hinz
ALC West - Mert Hinz
AV/Communications - Sue McGlynn
CEC - Jana Hutton
DAO - Shelly Bestgen
DMS - Gary Ganje
Riverwoods - Mert Hinz
Roosevelt - Marj Hawkins
Student Services - Sharie Narlock

FTP: Transferring Large Files

Use our FTP services to copy-and-paste or drag-and-drop large files between buildings. FTP also allows you to receive large files from outside the school district.

Example 1: You made a 5.1 MB PowerPoint presentation at home. You need to present it at school during an assembly. Click on the desired FTP site, open the FTP folder and then copy-and-paste or drag-and-drop the PowerPoint presentation into it. Have your media specialist, who is your FTP manager, retrieve the file from the FTP folder and place it in your home folder.

Example 2: A vendor can't e-mail you a 7.4 MB Excel file because it is too large. Have her go to isd742.org/ftp, click the link for your building's FTP site, open the FTP folder and then copy-and-paste or drag-and-drop the Excel file into it. Have your building's FTP manager retrieve the file from the FTP folder and place it in your home folder.

Example 3: You made an 11.7 MB iMovie at Tech, but you need to show it to your students at Apollo. Click on the Apollo FTP site, open the FTP folder and then copy-and-paste or drag-and-drop the iMovie into it. Have your media specialist, who is your FTP manager, retrieve the file from the FTP folder and place it in your home folder.

Limitations
  • FTP service on the Macintosh platform requires an FTP client such as Fetch, which serves as a helper application for the Internet Explorer browser. Contact your media specialist for assistance installing Fetch.
  • We do not have a method for people outside our network to retrieve files from FTP folders or home folders.
