Prairie Burn
Tuesday evening, April 29, one hundred students, parents and staff
attended the controlled burn of the Oak Hill prairie. The purpose of
the burn is to help control the spread and growth of woody plants like
sumac, cedars, elms and poison ivy and the cool weather grasses and
weeds that compete with the warm weather native plants that have been
planted on the Oak Hill prairie. The fire also returns nutrients to
the soil. Thank you to Paul and Jack Kosloske for the use of their fire
truck, Traut Wells for the use of a water tank, Jeremy Mendel for his
donation of water and pop for our thirsty volunteers and the PTSA for
purchasing cookies. View slideshow.

FPS stimulates critical- and creative-thinking skills and encourages
students to develop a vision for the future.
Grade 3 Research Project
In third grade, one of the Language Arts goals is to learn the research
process. In November students did guided researched on black bears and
wrote a paper using their research. In February, they used the same
process to research wolves. After completing that research, the report
was written on the computer and they learned how to add pictures to
a document. As a final project, Mrs. Scharenbroich's students created
a slide show of what they have learned. View
student work.
