Minnesota School of Business Community Service Day
On Friday, July 18, 60 volunteers gathered from the Minnesota School
of Business to rally together in the spirit of giving, donating five
hours of their time to help at Oak Hill School. There were several projects
that awaited them which were coordinated by our schools principal,
Tina Lahr. Projects included outdoor garden and courtyard maintenance,
interior updates, and assisting the teaching staff with moving to new
room assignments. Both schools were excited about the opportunity to
collaborate in this very special project sponsored through the United
Way. View slideshow.

Oak Hill First Graders Landscape Rotary Park
Despite the rain, Oak Hill first grade students form Mrs. Ormsbys
and Mrs. Schoeneckers classrooms added some new landscaping and
cleaned up Rotary Park on May 29th. The project was the conclusion of
the plants and seeds science unit the students were studying this spring.
They were able to accomplish this project with help from members of
the Rotary Club and Tech High School students from the Service Learning
Club. The students planned the landscaping project with the help of
LaRae Possin, from Rosewood Nursery and Floral. The nursery generously
helped out with the plants and materials, as well as prepared the ground
for planting. The students applied for and received a grant from the
United Way, Youth as Resources Fund to complete the project. View
slideshow.
Grade 1 Project
Oak Hill first grade students created slide shows as part of a research
project. The students studied animals and their habitats as they prepared
for their trip to the zoo. Each child selected an animal, founds facts
about the animal and then created a slide that contained some of the
information about each animal. Each child's slide became part of their
class slide show. View the slideshows by clicking on the appropriate
teacher.

Grade 3 Research Project
In third grade, one of the Language Arts goals is to learn the research
process. In November students did guided researched on black bears and
wrote a paper using their research. In February, they used the same
process to research wolves. After completing that research, the report
was written on the computer and they learned how to add pictures to
a document. As a final project, Mrs. Scharenbroich's students created
a slide show of what they have learned. View
