Mental Health Facilitator Services

Mental Health Facilitator Services are related services designed to provide support and intervention to high school special education students with emotional and behavioral needs, in order for them to benefit from their special education program.

Student Support – Individual and Group support throughout the school year

Assessments – Mental Status, Emotional and Behavioral Scales/Assessments, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans

Environmental Support – Consultation for teachers and families, referrals for psychological/psychiatric assessment, referrals for community services

Crisis Intervention – Risk Assessments, Safety Plans

Services Available

  • Assessment/ Consultation

  • Mental Health Screenings

  • Assistance with Functional Behavior

  • Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans

  • Crisis Intervention

  • Transition Support from hospital, residential, day treatment, corrections

  • Social Skills Groups

  • Specialized Groups

  • Coordination with community services, employers, county programs

  • Individual Therapy and Support throughout school year

  • Home Visits

  • Emotional and Behavioral Evaluations

  • Therapeutic Mediation

  • Membership on IEP teams

Some of the issues addressed include:

  • Mental Illness (Axis I or II diagnosis)

  • Problematic school behaviors

  • Fighting, physical aggression

  • Truancy

  • Self-injuring behaviors

  • Self-esteem

  • Peer relationship

  • Social skills

  • Coping skills

Referrals can be made through special education case managers, school social workers, IEP team members, and school administrators.
