Day 4 of your adventure begins here!
You can hardly believe how soundly you
slept! You can't remember a thing from the time you put down your journal
and shut off your light! You can't wait to see what this day is going to
bring!
- Reread Chapter 14 ~ Norbert the Norwegian
Ridgeback and Chapter 15 ~ The Forbidden Forest from the book Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer's Stone.
- Prepare your journal by labeling today's page
with "Tuesday" and then include today's date.
- As you compose your journal for Tuesday be
sure to use each of the following words, using the meaning you found in your
book for the word, at least one time. Make them orange
in your document. (You may "copy and paste" this list by
highlighting the words on this web page, right-clicking, choosing
"copy," and then pasting the list into your journal so you have
them all on hand to use as you write) : bated,
furling, grappling, jig, loomed, stifling, stoat, tartan, trowels, alibi,
bellowed, blundering, centaur, crossbow, dappled, furor, livid, oaf,
sapphires, strode
Just as you did yesterday, you again find your schedule lying neatly on your
desk. You quickly scan the itinerary.
Tuesday looks like this:
8:00 Breakfast
9:00 Tour of Hogwarts
12:30 Lunch
1:00 Magical Creatures - Hagrid
3:00 Quidditch Try-outs
5:30 Dinner
6:30 Walk in the Forbidden Forest
10:00 Lights Out
Again, Don't forget to make an entry in your journal for each activity of the
day! Include your whole experience! Don't forget to mention what you
do, see, hear, taste, touch. smell, and especially how you feel about it!
This is YOUR experience, so you are in charge of what happens to you at every
turn!
8:00 Breakfast - Ron gets a Howler

You can't believe it, you actually get to hear a Howler! Poor Ron is
in trouble with his mother again!
- In your journal, write what Ron's howler howls to him and why.
- Compose a howler that you deserve and write it in your journal. Tell
why you deserve this message, who it is from, and how you'd feel getting it
in front of everyone at breakfast in the dining hall.
- If you'd like to preview some howlers students at Hogwarts have gotten,
click on the button below. You may choose one and email it to yourself
at your home email address if you have one.
9:00 Tour of Hogwarts
Today you are going to be exploring Dumbeldore's Office.
You realize that these tours are your only chance to see some of the magical
places of this magical place with your own eyes. You know you'll see many
things you won't even know, but you can still take in the overall mood and tone
of a place as you see it for the first and only time.
Remember to look and watch carefully and remember how to take a
"snapshot" to include in your journal by doing a "print
screen" and pasting it into your journal when you see or do something you'd
like to describe later.
Also remember that if you drag your mouse while clicking down you can get a
360 degree view of the room you are in!
- Journal about what you saw in Dumbeldore's office. What things did
you understand perfectly? What things would you like to ask
about? What things looked spooky and mysterious? What things
looked dangerous or menacing? How would you and your
friends felt if Dumbeldore had suddenly appeared in the doorway.....did you
have permission to be there?
12:30 Lunch
1:00 Magical Creatures - Hagrid

Hagrid's class is exciting! Thankfully you are only going to read
about some of these wondrous animals today.....aren't you?
- Click on the button below to learn more about some of Hogwart's creatures.
- Reread the last 4 pages of Chapter 9 - A Midnight Duel
- In your journal write about:
- Why Fluffy probably looks like he
does. What symbol does a three-headed dog represent? Why did
the author choose this creature to guard the trapdoor?
- Also, please write about why the author may have chosen the Gryphon
as the mascot and name of Harry, Ron, and Hermione's house at Hogwarts.
- Finally, please share your ideas on why the author may have chosen to
put the tail feathers of a Phoenix into
both Harry's and Voldemort's wands.
Now it is time to make a creature of your own. After you have
experimented with different creatures, dress, and items, please choose the
"save" option. This will allow you to name your creature and
give it a name. Take a "snapshot" of your creature when you are
done to include in your journal.
- Write a short story in your journal about running into your creature as
you are on your way to Quidditch Try-outs this afternoon.
3:00 Quidditch Try-outs
You are very excited about finally playing Quidditch! Today is the day
you'll be trying out for each position and placed on a team!

- Before you start the try-out process, journal about which position you
would like to play on the team and why.
You may try out for each position two times. You must take a
"snapshot" of your second score in each position and include all four
in your journal.
Your position is whatever your highest score is.
Did you end up playing the position you'd hoped for?
- Journal about the position you'll be playing and how you feel about
that. Were you thrilled, ok with it, or disappointed? Of course,
no matter what position you'll be playing, you'll need to do your
best. Why is it important for a team to have the best players in the
positions for which they are best suited? Why is it sometimes
important for people to do something on a team that isn't their first
choice?
5:30 Dinner
6:30 You get to take a walk in the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid.

As you walk through this very eerie and spooky place, you are very glad that Hagrid is with you! While you are
in the forest you see all three of the following creatures!

- Choose one of the magical creatures you found in the forest to write about
before you go to bed. This is a short adventure story telling about
something that happened to you and Hagrid on your walk. Your setting
must be the Forbidden Forest. You may choose to include other
characters and creatures. Be sure that your story includes you as the
main character because you'll be writing in the first
person - using the pronoun "I" as you tell what happened to
YOU.
- Rate your day using this handy rating rubric! Run off one copy of the following document: Using a pencil or black pen, rate your day. Don’t forget to thoughtfully write your reflections! Then, save your document in the required location, or print it off, whichever your teacher has indicated, and hand in your rubric. Don’t forget your name!
10:00 Lights Out
